WHY WE TEACH MUSIC

Not because we expect you to major in music,

Not so that you can relax,

Not so that you can have fun,

But...

     So that you will be human

     So that you will recognize beauty

     So that you will be sensitive

     So that you will be open to culture beyond what you know

     So that you will find individual expression

     So that you will find lifelong meaning in the arts

     So that you will have more love, more compassion, more gentleness, more good ....

     In short so that you will have more life in your life.

Of what value will it be to make a prosperous living unless you know how to live?

“We are what we repeatedly do.

Excellence, therefore, is not an act, but a habit.”

NFMC Junior Pledge

"I acknowledge my indebtedness to good music;

I know that the music of a nation inspires or degrades;

I realize that acquaintance with great music instills

a love of that which brings courage and lofty ideals

and tends toward clean, noble living.

I promise to do all in my power to make America truly musical.
