Dear Parents and Students,
This is a good time for all of us to re-evaluate our commitment to music, set goals and work toward the highest achievement possible. I enjoy teaching, I enjoy getting to know my students and I enjoy working with them. Thank you for your continued support. It requires the cooperation of parent, teacher, and student to have a successful program. Parents need to create a good environment for their students by providing a well repaired and tuned instrument, a metronome, the required music, adequate time for practice, and appropriate motivation. Students also need to be punctual and consistent in their attendance at lessons. Students have the responsibility to be self-motivated and to practice regularly so they can come to their lessons well prepared. Students should also be responsible to keep their nails trimmed in order to achieve good hand positioning. Please schedule a regular practice time for each day. Consistency is a vital part of learning to play a musical instrument. I have the responsibility to learn about new teaching techniques and materials, to provide a good learning environment and to communicate with parents when needed.
I use a point system in my music studio. As students pass off each section of their lesson, they receive points. Students who come well prepared and are able to pass off their entire lesson will receive 10 extra bonus points for that week. Students may also receive points for attending concerts, performing, recording, working in their Piano Explorer magazines and attending group lessons.
I encourage all my students to participate in FEDERATION. The National Federation of Music Clubs Junior Festival program is designed to promote study, to stimulate interest in American and world music literature, and encourage each participant to reach a high standard of musical achievement. It is not a competition but an opportunity to perform and receive evaluation. Students may participate in the solo festival in February. the hymn festival in April, and the duet festival next fall. As students accumulate Federation points each year, they will have the opportunity to earn gold cups. These are cherished trophies. There is a $10.00 participation fee for FEDERATION each festival in which they participate. Students must also furnish their own music for Federation.
Payment for lessons will be $72.00 per month, whether students attend lessons or not. This entitles students to four lessons per month (private or group). Recitals will be considered a lesson. Payment is due at the first lesson of each month. If I am unable to teach due to illness or travel, I will try to schedule a make-up lesson or I will give you a credit of $18.00 toward your next payment. There will only be three lessons in December, so you may adjust your payment to $54.00 plus a $6.00 fee for the Piano Explorer magazine for a total of $60.00. If you need to change a lesson time please let me know at the beginning of the week so we can try to arrange a trade with another student. You can contact me at:

When a student has recorded a sufficient number of songs, he may opt to have a CD burned.
At times, I offer a group theory and performance class. In this class we will study music history, rhythm skills, chords and scales, musical terms, famous pianists, solfege, play musical games, etc. Students will also have an opportunity to perform and receive points. They are designed for students who want to enhance their musical exprperience. It is also a good way to socialize and make new friends.
